One of our primary objectives is to provide clothing to families in need. To accomplish this we have sought donations of new and used clothing from private donors and corporate sponsors. Since the fall of 1992, FREE the NEED has been receiving regular donations of sample and returned merchandise from local clothing manufacturers, individuals and Buffalo Exchange, and distributing them to various nonprofit groups and community centers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Siskiyou County.
Back-to-School Giveaway
In the Fall of 2003 FREE the NEED launched
the first Back-to-School Giveaway in Siskiyou
County. The one-day free store providing 120
children and teens ages 1 - 21 with clothing,
coats, school supplies and hair cuts.
Since that time the annual Back-to-School
Giveaway has prepared over 1400 students for
school. Each year new items have been added
to the giveaway, which now includes personal
care items, as well as new socks and back-
packs. Our goal for future giveaways is to be
able to replace the gently used clothing with all
new items including coats and shoes.
